I’ve been known to make a `bee line’ for things I feel passionately about. These things aren’t necessarily only work opportunities, but personal growth too.
Mental wellness is an important component to daily life, and vital to the things we set out to achieve. “I believe in you”, albeit it a of a cliché, are words that deeply resonate with me. Let’s go back a few years to where it all started. I was living in Texas, where I spent two years training to work for a youth program. However, I took a brief hiatus to help support the Red Cross with relief work during hurricanes Katrina and Rita. I supported alongside a wonderful team of women and the American military by opening two hurricane relief shelters, where our efforts were later recognised and commended by the Governor of Texas.
It was one of the most humbling and grounding experiences of my life, and it truly opened my eyes and heart to helping those in need. Entering into the shelters, witnessing an overwhelming number of injured survivors, all from different walks of life, each with their own story to tell. Stories waiting to be unravelled and heard. It all began with one individual, who found comfort in sharing their narrative. While I couldn’t help on a material level, I could on an emotional one, and I then found myself hearkening to those who wanted to relieve the burden of their fearful experiences, and allow them to find enlightenment in sharing their past and future endeavours. Some women were unsure as to what direction their lives would take post-trauma, but sometimes it takes a spark of belief from another individual to help them make forthcoming baby steps. I was happy to be that person to them, filling them with confidence in their own abilities. After all, one person’s weapon is another person’s survival story in life.
After all, our successes are a result of belief and a sense of inspiration. Once ignited, dark becomes light, and the world seems a little brighter, allowing you to see the path leading to the door ahead. It takes courage to take that first leap of faith and knock at the door. When the door doesn’t open, we learn to knock a little harder – with confidence. If all else fails, we still have the tools to build a window, and find another way in.
I Believe In You is a new platform for women of all ages and backgrounds to share their stories within a supportive, tight-knit community. It’s my tribute to all those women I have met who helped me build my hive. While I’m no bee keeper, I do know there is a process to making and harvesting honey, the golden glory, the success story. And, it’s my mission to help you, fellow bees, create your honey.
